Dedications

Dedications

Let donors give in honor or in memory of someone, with optional email notifications. Includes card images and personal messages.

Dedications let donors give in honor or in memory of someone, and optionally notify that person (or their family) by email with a personalized message. Common for memorial gifts, tribute gifts, holiday and birthday giving, and any campaign where a donor wants their gift to mean something specific to someone else.

Enable dedications

Dedications are off by default. To turn them on:

  1. In the donation page editor, click the Form Features tab in the left sidebar.
  2. Toggle Dedications on, or click Edit to open the configuration panel directly.

A "This is an honor/memorial gift" checkbox appears on the form preview, below the donation amount. When donors check it, an Honor/Memorial Information section slides open with the rest of the dedication fields.

The donor experience

Once dedications are enabled, here's what donors see in the dedication flow:

  1. This is an honor/memorial gift — a checkbox on the form. Checking it opens the dedication section.
  2. Make this gift — toggle between In Honor of and In Memory of.
  3. First Name / Last Name — the person being honored or memorialized.
  4. Renew yearly — an optional checkbox to renew the gift annually on the same day. Useful for anniversaries of someone's passing or recurring birthday tributes. The renewed donation processes automatically each year; the notification (below) only sends on the initial donation, not on renewals.
  5. Send notification — the donor chooses how to notify the recipient: By Email or No Notification.
  6. Send notification to — if Email is selected, the recipient's first name, last name, and email address.
  7. Select a card design — the donor picks a card image to accompany the email. Drawn from the images you upload (see below).
  8. Personal message — up to 800 characters of personal copy that appears on the email card. The donor writes this themselves.

Email card images

In the Dedications panel, the Email Images section lets you upload card designs that donors choose from when sending dedication notifications. Up to 9 images can be uploaded per campaign. Recommended dimensions: 1280px × 1800px (portrait orientation).

Pick images that fit the kinds of dedications your donors make. Most organizations include a mix:

  • A neutral, organization-branded card (good default for any dedication)
  • Seasonal or thematic options that fit holiday giving (flowers, nature scenes, candles)
  • Cause-specific imagery that connects to your mission

Donors see all uploaded cards as a grid and pick one. There's no "default" image — donors choose explicitly.

Where dedication details appear

When a donation includes a dedication, the dedication details appear in two places:

  • Activity Dashboard — click into a dedicated donation and scroll to the Dedication section. Shows the dedication type (In Honor / In Memory), the honoree's name, notification method, recipient details, the card image, and the personal message. Useful for your fundraising team when following up with donors or recipients.
  • Email to the recipient — sent automatically when the donor chooses Email notification. Includes the card image and personal message. Renewed gifts do not generate a new email.

Configuration considerations

A few patterns to think about:

  • Consider whether to enable dedications across all campaigns. Dedications work for almost any cause but feel especially right for memorial or tribute-heavy campaigns. For a Giving Tuesday push focused on new-donor acquisition, dedications might add friction without much upside. Toggle it on where the audience is likely to want it.
  • Curate the card image library carefully. Generic stock-photo cards feel generic. A small library of well-chosen, on-brand images outperforms a large library of mismatched ones. Three or four really good cards is enough for most organizations.
  • Test the recipient email. Send a test dedication to yourself before launching a campaign to see exactly what the recipient receives. The personal message and card image matter more in the live email than they do in the editor preview.
