Currencies and payment methods

Currencies and payment methods

Configure which payment methods and currencies your donation page accepts. GiveForms auto-orders methods for conversion and auto-converts currencies for international donors.

The Payments panel configures which payment methods donors can use, which currencies the form accepts, and how fees are handled. GiveForms ships sensible defaults across all three — most campaigns won't need to change anything here.

Open the Payments panel

In the donation page editor, click directly on the Payment Info section in the form preview (the area showing the payment method buttons and credit card fields). The Payments panel opens on the right.

Payment methods

Six payment methods are available, each with a simple on/off toggle. GiveForms enables all of them by default, and we recommend leaving them on. Each removed payment method removes a path to donation that some donors prefer.

Payment methods are automatically ordered to maximize conversion. The order donors see isn't the order in the panel — it's dynamic, based on the donor's device, browser, and platform. A donor on iOS Safari sees Apple Pay first; a donor on Android Chrome sees Google Pay first; a donor on a Windows laptop without a digital wallet sees Credit Card first. You don't control this ordering, and you don't need to.

Apple Pay

One-tap payment through the donor's Apple device. Apple Pay only displays when the donor is on an Apple device, using Safari, and has Apple Pay set up. For donors who meet all three conditions, it's the fastest path to donation — frequently the highest-converting payment method on the form.

Google Pay

One-tap payment through the donor's Google account. Google Pay only displays when the donor is using Google Chrome and has Google Pay set up.

Credit Card

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners Club, and JCB. The default fallback for donors who don't have a digital wallet set up or who prefer entering card details directly.

PayPal

Donors pay from their PayPal balance, linked bank account, or saved cards within PayPal. Requires a PayPal Business account connected to GiveForms. See Connecting PayPal.

ACH Bank Transfer

Direct bank transfer for US donors. Lower processor fees than cards — especially valuable for larger gifts where percentage-based card fees become significant. ACH takes a few business days to settle, so it isn't suitable for time-sensitive transactions, but for major donors giving sizable one-time or recurring gifts, the fee savings are real.

Currencies

GiveForms supports 30 currencies, all enabled by default. Open Show All to see the full list and toggle individual currencies on or off.

Default currency

Your account defaults to USD. To change the default to a different currency, set it in the currency list. The default is what donors see when auto-detection is off, or when a visitor's local currency isn't one you've enabled.

Auto detect visitor currency

When this toggle is on, GiveForms detects the donor's location and converts your preset amounts to their local currency on the fly, using that day's exchange rate. A $50 preset on a US-based form shows as approximately ¥7,940 to a donor in Japan, €46 to a donor in Germany, or £40 to a donor in the UK.

This is a meaningful trust signal for international donors. Seeing "$50" when your wallet thinks in pounds adds friction; seeing "£40" doesn't. We recommend leaving this on for most campaigns, especially any with an international audience.

If a visitor's detected currency isn't enabled in your currency list, GiveForms falls back to the default currency.

Fees

The Fees section of the Payments panel controls whether donors are asked to cover processing fees, and how that option is presented. See Fee coverage for the full guide, including the checkbox text customization and the "Cover fees by default" option.
